You cannot go to Florence without trying their Florentine steak, and
if that’s exactly what you’ve done, then you missed out – BIG TIME! The
restaurant is tucked in a little corner, located Via dei Girolami, 28/r, called
Buca dell’Orafo.
We started with a small starter, but obviously saving our appetites
for the main course. To represent how culturally accepting we are, I ordered a
plate of Crostini fiorentini; which is a plate of chicken liver pate crostini. I
figure it’s because I’m Chinese, that I don’t really mind the organs of
animals. However, I know it tends to gross people out when they realise it’s
chicken liver, but you never know if you like it or not unless you try it!
I felt that the meal was so meat-heavy that we had to order veggies.
It’s great that the restaurant changes the menu everyday, considering the fresh
vegetables available each day at the local markets. It may not be the
healthiest, but we ordered carciofi fritti (artichoke fritters). The artichoke
was lightly battered and very tasty; it was like eating crisps but healthier! The
flavors were not too powerful, so it did not clash with the Florentine steak.
The succulent flavor of the juices oozing out of the steak, accompanied
by the mouth-watering smell of a nicely, cooked to perfection – crusted on the
outside, but soft in the inside – piece of steak. Honestly, one of the most
delicious meals of the entire trip!
