We
have been given an assignment making a retail blog post about 3
different shopping areas in London, and write about the retail
environment and give an insight of the areas. I have chosen Oxford Street,
Mayfair and Soho & Carnaby Street. All these areas are located
not far from each other in the West End of London.
Oxford Street
Oxford
street is one of the most popular shopping areas you'll find in
London. It has all the high street shops and is known for fashionable
pieces to affordable prices. This is often the first shopping
destination in London for tourists. Some of the leading shops are
Zara, Miss Selfridge and Topshop.
Photos of Zara's entrance and inside Urban Outfitters in Oxford street.
The
buildings in the street have a classic 18th century look and makes
the area look clean and neat. The street is not pedestrianised, as
Carnaby, so you'll have to look up for vehicles crossing the road
going from one shop to the other.
This
street is always crowded filled with people looking for fashionable
bargains. You can see all from families with kids, teenagers and
pensioners. Consumers who shop here wear all sort of clothing. You
find people who are all into fashion and want to purchase the newest
trends on the market, and on the other hand consumers wanting basic
pieces of clothing for everyday wear.
Here is some street style shots from Oxford street.

Consumer: In all about £80.
-
What made you buy the these specific items?
Consumer: I was looking for something to wear on nights out and usually find something I like in River Island, so I went there and found a playsuit to a decent price. I'm also a fan of Topshop so I went shopping there for a nicer everyday jumper.

Do you usually go shopping in the streets or online?
Consumer: I think I do a bit of both. I like trying the clothes on before i buy it, but the choices online are so much bigger and its easier and quicker finding specific things I'm looking for.

Soho
& Carnaby Street
These
areas are known for their youthful vibe, streetwear shops and denim.
Some of the shops you'll find there is Dr. Martens, Monki, WESC and
Diesel.
This is a pedestrianised street which makes it easy to move from one shop to the other. The buildings and architecture is a mix of brick buildings and buildings painted in various colours which gives the shopping areas a fun and youthful atmosphere fitting with the targeted customers.
The first photo is taken just before christmas in Carnaby street showing their bubbly christmas decorations. Below you can see an image of Diesels funky entrance and a shot of the decorations inside the shop Monki.
Most of the consumers you'll see in this street is a young crowd experimenting with fashion with edgy styles and streetwear. This is also the sort of clothing you can find in the typical shops here.
Mayfair
You'll
find Mayfair is in central London, and known the area is known for
its designer shops for consumers with an expensive taste. This is
also an area with lots of jewllers and art studios. You´ll find
designer shops like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci. The area has a
classy and sophisticated atmosphere.
The
architecture is made up of classic old buildings giving the area a
luxurious look. The designer shops are also well decorated with
beautiful shop windows with appealing pieces of clothing and
accessories.
Consumers
shopping here are in general well off and prefer wearing designers
clothes from the high street brands. They are usually from young
adults age up to seniors.
